Our Practical Vision or Manifesto

The  Playhouse creates a new, informed, and personal space that exists between genres and art forms. We are an interdisciplinary collective, bound by international and intersectional approaches to reshaping cultural structures and finding the lifeline of community.

The Playhouse is a sanctuary that empathizes and supports the cultural climate of Berlin, which urgently needs to be met with new manifested acts of solidarity.

Questioning, how to change the city to benefit the generating of culture?

What does a city stand for?

What gets support, or is conformed to?

What is censored, stigmatized, or segregated?

The Playhouse is a home for development endeavors of the self and in groups, sharing values that bring people together.

The Playhouse is a place to connect with something bigger than ourselves.

The Playhouse is an international creative network and organization centered on cross-discipline collaboration and arts-based community development. We work together to personally support those who emphasize the process rather than the end product or goals in the life journey.

Our Spiritual Manifesto

The playhouse within us. It is full of rooms, some with doors often opened, some with doors that have become too small to fit through. An intricate web of entangled fantasies, structures, shadows, and dreams.

Exploring how our ideals, intentions, and inspirations (our spirit, or "projective" part of our being) and our embodied, emotional, sexual, creative energy manifest (our soul, or "receptive" part of us, that part that "gives birth" to synchronous experiences in the outer world).

Whether you find yourself on a meditative journey, exploring your sensuality, celebrating your body in the company of others, or simply enjoying the warmth of new connections, we invite you to express yourself fully and freely.

We can find creation in our restlessness, whilst others may create from a sense of deep knowingness. Bridging philosophies of chaos theory, the night-sea journey, Butoh philosophy, and existential analysis.

Finding the Playhouse within:

- all our idiosyncrasies, individual characteristics, and uniqueness.

- our regressive capacity that often turns to dependency. Looking into that part of us that wishes to fail, our defeatist capacity, our fascination with death or accident.

- the cornucopia of the universe, the always reliable, nourishing, sustaining part of ourselves.

- our psychic structures, our anima, our soul image.

What are our principles?

  • Be warm, welcoming, and loving, but be bold in stating your boundaries. Respect each other’s space and journey. Threads of stories and lifelines are weaving together, sharing this intimate space with strangers requires compassion, cooperation, and respect.

  • We celebrate the passion for strong energies and the delicacy of soft energy. We encourage the subverting of conventional gender stereotypes and going against social expectations.

  • Hold the space. A cross-cultural experience attracts vulnerability, everyone has a role, and holding the space for others is such a powerful thing. Society can make us feel alone and empty. Support the All-oneness.

Inclusivity

We are a queer-friendly, body-positive community that welcomes and celebrates diversity. We have zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, body shaming, ageism, ableism, or any form of discrimination.

From all over the world, our collective includes dancers, artists, singers, scientists, sound artists, musicians, chefs, therapists, designers and curators.

Intimacy means being emotionally and intellectually connected, creating a safe space to share vulnerabilities, feelings, and experiences while feeling respected and comfortable.
